Educate every generation

Wonder and curiosity know no age limit

The beauty and mystery of a night sky hold a promise for young and old alike. That's why education has always been central to the mission of the Adler. In recent years, our program roster has grown into a continuum of offerings and formats for all ages. Today and in the future, we want everyone to regard the Adler as their knowledge partner - whether they learn at the museum, on the go, at home, in school, or as part of a community.

The Adler's education programs serve all ages, with:
  • Shows like One World, One Sky: Big Bird's Adventure for young children;
  • Summer mini-camps that match children's growth;
  • Teen Astronomers Camp or Astro-Science Workshop, immersing teens in science; and,
  • Easy-to-use tools that give adults the opportunity to become citizen scientists.
Support for at-risk students and professional development for their teachers

Tailored to the needs of teachers and students, particularly those in Chicago Public Schools, our deep menu of learning programs grows in scope and relevance with each passing year. Engaging these students successfully in science education is critical to our nation's future - and the Adler is committed to developing and providing the right resources.

Innovative applications of emerging technologies

Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, MySpace, and Flickr - these and other social media tools provide new avenues for science enthusiasts all over the world to interact with the Adler and each other. Building on the success of our teen podcast series and live webcasts of space missions, the Lift-Off! Campaign will fuel interactive web and gallery features, and drive the development of new technologies that build communities of audiences and institutions worldwide.
