Special Events Facilitator

Objective:
To lead educational activities and provide exhibit interpretation for visitors to the planetarium during special events. Special event facilitators provide an exciting and interactive experience to visitors for events such as Astronomy Day, Astro-Overnights, birthday parties, and other educational events unique to the Adler and offsite.
Responsibilities:
• Share ideas about science, particularly astronomy and cosmology, with museum visitors.
• Conduct scientific demonstrations, facilitate crafts and other hands–on activities related to astronomy.
• Answer questions and explain ideas presented in exhibits to visitors.
• Inform Manager of Volunteer Services of schedule changes, conflicts and all happy experiences.
Qualifications:
Must be at least 15 years old. Should enjoy interacting with children, families, adults and groups. Have an interest in learning about science, particularly astronomy. Be enthusiastic and comfortable about sharing new ideas with groups of people of all ages.
Training:
Special Events Facilitators must complete at least one interpretive training and one activity training. At their interview with the Volunteer Program Manager, volunteers will be made aware of upcoming trainings they may be able to attend.
Commitment:
• Successfully complete a comprehensive training program.
•Volunteer for one event a month. Events are generally Friday evenings or Saturdays.
• Make a minimum commitment of 1 year.
